Wots the average crit for a lvl 40 warlock on Destruction build?
Ave got about +190 spell damage on my gear some of which is shadow spell damage. ave crit around 850-900 with a shadow bolt, but I don’t know if i’m wasting my time with +spell damage gear.
Any ideas on gear? am at work so a cant check thottbot

There’s a lot of decent gear out there for you, especially since the recent changes to dungeon rare-quality items. I’m not sure why you can’t check thottbot at work, or why you’re coming here, because I have no idea if you can check the link I’m going to give you either.
Nevertheless, it’s a great resource. To be honest, I don’t really remember what a solid number for crit is at level 40, but if you are destruction, you want as much as you can get. There are 2 ways to do this:
1) Intellect
2) Crit rating
If you are an alliance Warlock, there is an additional piece of gear that I would suggest you pick up. It is an alliance-only questline though, so don’t worry about it if you’re horde. It’s a long questline (7 steps), but you get a 12 stam 12 int robe with 12 crit strike rating. Not too shabby. This robe is called the Robe of Crystal Waters.
Anyhow, I recommend looking at Kaliban’s Class Loot List, PreBC for quested and instanced gear. It will help you plan out a lot of your trips and quests by level.
Damage gear is not a waste, but it’s important to know -how- +damage affects your spells. There is a damage coefficient for every spell, and they’re all different. Some spells get as little as 19% of your +damage (meaning, if you have 100 +damage, that spell would only recieve 19 extra damage), and some spells have up to 200% damage coefficient, meaning they would recieve 200 extra damage.
As a very general rule, but especially when leveling, You’ll want to stack stats in this order:
1) Stamina
2) Damage
3) Intellect
4) Crit
(3 and 4 can be interchangeable if you like, but the more Int you have, the less you’ll have to lifetap, and you won’t go OOM so fast).
