What would you say is the most annoying thing in Wow? Many people would say getting ganked right before you finish killing a monster, or if the game crashes at an important time. However, for me, the most annoying thing is when you get constant slowdown, AKA lag. With internet lag there is not a lot you can do, but if it’s your computer then here are some steps you can take to make playing WoW more fun for yourself.

There are a lot of different things that you can do to make WoW run smoother so I’ll just put my top 5 here. I’ll start with the most expensive and difficult and go down to cheapest and easiest.

1. Video Card

Getting a new video card will make a huge difference for anyone who is having computer slowdown while playing WoW. I highly recommend the “Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT.” You can get one of these for $80-110 depending on the extras that come with it, but any of them will be good. If you want awesome performance you can even use two of them!

2. Make sure you have adequate RAM

The 2nd most important thing is the amount of RAM you have. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven then I really recommend you get at least 4 gigabytes of RAM. If you only have 1 or 2 GB of RAM at the moment then this is most likely a large source of your slowdown or lag. Please keep in mind that you can only use 4GB or more of RAM if you have a 64bit operating system. If you have a 32bit OS (operating system) then 3GB of RAM is the max you can use.

3. Get the newest drivers

First, find out what kind of video card you have. Then go to the manufacturer’s website and look for a link somewhere that says “Drivers”, “Downloads”, or “Support.” You will most likely find the newest drivers for your graphics card there. Video card drivers are the most important to keep up to date, however you should still update your sound card and other drivers as well.

4. Turn off windows sidebar

The gadgets can sometimes be handy, however they can easily become a source of slowdown. Go over to the sidebar, right-click and select “Properties” in order to change the settings.

5. Play in Full Screen

If you run WoW in fullscreen mode then your computer does not have to display everything on your desktop at the same time as displaying what you are doing in WoW. This will get you a big FPS increase if you played in windowed mode before.

Now that you have your game running faster and more smoothly; would you like your leveling speed to be fast also? If so, check out our review of Zygors leveling guide for more information about getting every class you want up to level 80 in no time.
