why am i getting less then 10 fps in dalaran( world of warcraft)?

my system intel quadcore cpu qx6700 extreme edition running at 2.66g stock with stock fan,bfg invidia 8800gt 512mb , 1000watt power supply 2gig ocz ram n the antec 900 gaming tower. is this system good enough for wow or do i need to upgrade? i’m sick of getting 10 fps in dalaran n 25 man raid. btw i’m running window 7 ultimate 32bit.
ps motherboard : gigabyte ex38-ds4 n btw ping is around 400. my lag due to fps not ping.

I don’t play WoW, and even *I* have heard of Dalaran…it’s a major “city” with lots of players in it. If all of the people in it were AIs, you wouldn’t have half the problems you do, but unfortunately, since most of the avatars you see belong to players, that means that the system has to accomodate everyone. So, it is sending out data to a larger number of players from a pipeline with a finite capacity. The less data per second that it can send, the less you recieve. The less data you receive, the lower your frame rate.

You can help by lowering your resolution while in town (the server doesn’t need to send you as much data), or by getting a higher speed link – but since the Blizzard line isn’t getting any bigger, that won’t help too much.

Also…a 400 ping 100% means a lowered frame rate. I play twitch games (BF2142 mostly), and if I’m on a server with a ping higher than 120, I start noticing serious frame stutter and the old Deja-Vu… High ping means high lag, means low FPS…especially in a MMORPG… Remember, ping is the time in miliseconds from you doing something and the server receiving your information.

If you want to keep your settings where they are and (slightly) increase your FPS, you can try to find a 275 and install it in place of your 8800 – since I doubt you’d be able to find an 8800 to SLI it. (Don’t let someone con you into an upgrade to a 250…after all a 250 is a 9800 is an 8800…)

Good Luck!
